Why Tallow?
The use of animal fats in skincare dates back centuries. Tallow (beef/mutton fat) and lard (pig fat) were frequently used in ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, & beyond. It really wasn’t until modern day that we collectively stopped using these tried-and-true ingredients in our skincare and replaced them with toxic imposters. Tallow works so well because it is rich in the same fatty acids (Palmitic, stearic, oleic, and linoleic) and natural vitamins that are found in our skin's sebum. Like dissolves like - so it’s the perfect moisturizer. It also contains anti-inflammatory properties that helps soothe irritation and reduce pain. A little goes a long way to hydrate and heal your skin.

My tallow melted, what do I do?

This question is particularly relevant as the summer months approach. Tallow melts at 85 degrees Fahrenheit. If melting occurs, the tallow balm will re-solidify at room temperature and should be good as new. When your tallow balm melts and re-solidifies, it can sometimes have a grainy texture. This is not cause for alarm, just reheat the tallow until it is liquid and allow it to harden in the refrigerator for an hour. This should help it return to its original smooth texture. Melting will not degrade the quality of the product.

Where do I store my tallow balm?

We recommend you store your tallow balm in a cool, dark, place. Refrigerating your tallow balm may extend the shelf life. However, at room temperature it should last 6 months to 1 year.
